How to Brew Coffee With a Moka Pot

If you like your coffee strong, a stovetop Moka pot is a simple way to brew a powerful cup of coffee.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Stovetop Moka pot
  • Water carafe

WATER TO COFFEE RATIO

  • 15
      g Medium Ground Coffe
  • 160
      ml Water (1.5 tbsp per 5.5 fl oz)

STEP 1

Fill the bottom with hot water.

Pour boiling water and let it cool for 30 seconds. Stop pouring when the water reaches just below the safety valve.

For this brewing method, use a medium grind which resembles table salt.

Fill the brewing basket to the top with medium coffee grounds.

Use 1.5 tbsp of coffee (15 g) for each cup (180 ml, 6 fl oz). Tap gently to even out the grounds.

Screw on the top.

Make sure the filter and rubber gasket are secure

Heat the Moka pot on medium-low heat.

When water in the bottom compartment starts to boil, the coffee will drip into the upper section of the pot.

Listen closely.

You’ll hear a soft bubbling sound when the coffee is ready.

Remove from heat & serve.

Enjoy your fresh cup of Moka pot coffee!

QUICK TIPS

To clean the Moka pot, carefully rinse each part with warm water. Let it dry completely before reassembling to avoid rust.
